Colour me BLACK for the Love of Trayvon Martin

I just signed a petition asking for Justice for Trayvon Martin, an unarmed BLACK teenager, who was shot dead by 28-year-old George Zimmerman, the community's self-appointed "neighborhood watch leader, on February 26th, 2012.
Trayvon was walking to a family member's home from a convenience store where he had just bought some candy. He was only 17 years old.

My heart is broken that Zimmerman is yet to be arrested and prosecuted.
Trayvon was his parent's hero. At the age of 9, he pulled his father from a burning kitchen, saving his life. He loved sports and horseback riding. At only 17 he had a bright future ahead of him with dreams of attending college and becoming an aviation mechanic. Now that’s all gone.

When Zimmerman reported Trayvon to the police, they told him not to confront him. But he did anyway. All we know about what happened next is that 17-year-old Trayvon, who was completely unarmed, was shot and killed.
It's been over two weeks and the Sanford Police have refused to arrest George Zimmerman. In their public statements, they even go so far as to stand up for the killer - saying he's "a college grad" who took a class in criminal justice
Time and time again, news of this nature makes the headlines, and the authorities only react, when there is an uproar.

The United States of America is often bandied to be the Land of the FREE, but incidences like this make one question that.
The skeletons of racism, stereotyping, and hatred, that line the closets of American history come crawling out from the shadows.

The ghosts of the Jim Crow days never go away.
People judge and convict you in their hearts before they even get to know you.
As a mother, your first thought is, this could well be my child. His life is cut short just because he is BLACK
Old wounds are open and one is left emotionally raw.
The world is full of so much hate. People are full of insecurities and often take it out on others.

We often focus on our differences, rather than our similarities, for we are more similar than we are different.
Black, White, Hispanic, or Asian. we all stop breathing if our hearts stopped beating.
We all crave for Love, to give, and to receive in return.
there is an inherent need to procreate and propagate our lineage
The color of our blood when we are cut is crimson.
All we ask for is that justice be served, and the killer of Trayvon be prosecuted
