Love Is Blind-Netflix

Some will disagree with the premise that love is blind and rightly so. Others would argue that you fall in love with the essence of the person even if you have no idea what they look like. But is that enough for many? When we live in a society and culture that has become so superficial that looks seem to be everything!

In our world it is all about the looks, is he tall? how pretty is she? what about their fashion sense, or style? and for some, how heavy is the wallet? And so to attract the right partner billions of dollars are spent on enhancing the looks. To promote self in order to attract a better mate. How shallow and dumb!

And if you did not think about it, fashion magazines will show you how a desirable man or woman should look. It's on the cover of all kinds of magazines every minute, and hour. You have to look a certain way to be more attractive, so women. men, more especially women spend top dollars on makeup, and hair (especially Black women).

Makeup and artificial hair are a billion-dollar industry. Ask Rihanna, she was smart enough to join- Fenty was born. And this billion-dollar industry is only going to grow. Why? the demands are humongous! Humans all have a certain level of insecurity and need to be validated in some way.

But who are we kidding? we love to lie to ourselves! The more we focus on the external looks the more the rate of divorces climbs. Because right out of the gate, we are all lying to ourselves. But that is not gonna stop us as we are a fundamentally flawed species.

We have lost our way on earth and instead of taking a pause, we continue to race to nowhere. We are unhappiest as far as human history goes, yet we have all manner of tools and technology to make our lives easier than in the past. We are supposedly more educated than ever before. Still, our mental health has nosedived worse than in past centuries,

What are we doing wrong? The show on Netflix "Love Is Blind" is an experiment that highlights our twisted and superficial nature. Because for us Love can not be blind, it has to wear the best spectacles to see all we can. Especially here in North America and particularly in the United States. It matters to us, we are a species full of insecurities and care about what everyone thinks about us. After all, we dress and live our lives to show off to anyone who cares how good we look and how well we are doing materially.

So, the fact that only two of maybe 30 contestants make it to the altar on these shows tells a lot about not just the contestants, but our society in general. Besides marriage is supposed to be a lifelong journey and you cannot pick such a partner in 40 days!

I watched the U.S series and compared it to Japan's and very much prefer Japan. Because it seemed more realistic, as the engaged couples thrashed their issues and decided well ahead before getting to the altar. The U.S episodes like most think American was too full of drama, well, it all has to be about ratings and good television, but not psychologically healthy for those involved. But, I guess "It's all about the Benjamins" Why wait until the altar to tell someone you don't wanna marry them when you already knew the night before you could not go throw with it.

I liked Lauren and Cameron from the first season and fortunately, they have managed to stay married for almost four years. But the contestants or participants this season 2 were not really my cup of tea and in the end, many did not do well. I think there was a lot of dishonesty, well, what do you expect in a reality show.

I preferred "Love Is Blind-Japan, I found the participants more honest and mature in the way they handled things. It was more wholesome. Although 56-year-old Shuntaro must have been dreaming to think he was a good match for 30-year-old Ayano, whom at some point called a "tourist" in his life, such a disrespectful thing to say. I'm no ageist but that 26 years difference is a bust.

I am not even going to shit on the villain of the 2nd season, the guy who calls himself "Shake" who I think needs therapy more than any of the participants. Deepti doged a big bullet. Shayne, Shaina, Mallory, Salvador, and Danielle do have issues they have to work through.

If you have not seen season 2, you are not missing out on much,  I prefer season 1. And you should take a look at the Japan edition. The Brazil edition was not my cup of tea, too many clout chasers!
