A Requiem for my Homeland. #Nigeria

Their ghosts cast long shadows
the trail is too far to follow
their footprints
constant reminders
of what we are
mere mortals
wandering this part of the creation
Plans for yesterdays and the future
all in disarray, a flicker
and it's gone in a twinkle.

My heart sobs and throbs
to the distant dirge of drums
echoes of  voices

 from yesterday
Searching for
answers today.
If the  sage
forgets his message
the babies fall from the skies
their  crimson insides
wrapped around the heads of elders
Did you speak out
they cry
Did the gongs of truth
drown their voices?
The voices of the crimson headed elders

It is late now
For their ghosts tread paths
A trail too far to follow
Heads bowed in sorrow
Teeth jarring in pain.
Eyes brimming with tears

Tears that fill the Oceans
the babies falling from the skies
Children, of tomorrow
All gone in a twinkle
For the sage forgot his message
the gongs of truth too faint
To be heard.
