Happy 94th Birthday Nelson Mandela: Will you Give 67 minutes To Nelson Mandela Day

A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination.-   Nelson Mandela

How does one begin to pay tribute to a living Legend? A man who is revered in all the world.
A man who many eloquent speeches have been written and made about.
I do not know where to begin, for your antecedent is known all over the world, minstrels sing about you.
On this day, your 94th birthday, I will like to join the many voices all around the world to wish you my, our  tata (Xhosa: father) Madiba  his Xhosa clan name; Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, a very happy birthday.

Today, 18 July is the 94th  birthday of Nelson Mandela and the UN is joining a call by the Nelson Mandela Foundation to devote 67 minutes of time to helping others, as a way to mark Nelson Mandela International Day

In Brussels, the UN Regional Information Center, with the support of the International Press Center (IPC) and the Embassy of South Africa will mark the day with Exhibit panels, featuring background on the Day and suggestions for 67 minutes of service.  A dedicated 'post'box will be available at the exhibit site and throughout the day, the public will also be able to write a message to Mr. Mandela that will be sent to him through the South African Embassy in Brussels.

Nelson Mandela International Day was inaugurated by the UN in 2008 after the successful 90th birthday party for the former president and prisoner, held in London. It is the first time that the UN has dedicated an International Day to an individual.

For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.- Nelson Mandela

If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.

I detest racialism, because I regard it as a barbaric thing, whether it comes from a black man or a white man.

If you want to make peace with your enemy, you have to work with your enemy. Then he becomes your partner.

I dream of the realization of the unity of Africa, whereby its leaders combine in their efforts to solve the problems of this continent. I dream of our vast deserts, of our forests, of all our great wildernesses.
Nelson Mandela

I dream of an Africa which is in peace with itself.

What Can I do on
Mandela Day?

The overarching objective of Mandela Day is to inspire individuals to take action to help change the world for the better, and in doing so build a global movement for good. Ultimately it seeks to empower communities everywhere. “Take Action; Inspire Change; Make Every Day a Mandela Day.”
Individuals and organizations are free to participate in Mandela Day as they wish. We do however urge everyone to adhere to the ethical framework of “service to one’s fellow human”.
